A portable and collapsible batting cage device which forms an on-deck batting cage enclosure comprising a plurality of vertical support members and a continuous sheet of flexible mesh netting that is slidably connected to the vertical support members by a plurality of flexible fabric-type sleeves, the sleeves being secured to the flexible mesh netting by attachment means. The vertical support members are tubular poles that are fastened to a flat ground surface by a plurality of anchoring spikes, the anchoring spikes having a circular engagement member that is inserted into the tubular poles and a tapered spike member at the opposing end that is driven into the ground.
