There is provided a portable tape dispenser for single-handed operation. The dispenser comprises a ribbed spindle attached to a backing plate which supports means for attachment of the dispenser to an article of clothing worn by a user of the dispenser. The tension between the spindle and the backing plate is selected to provide sufficient resistance to the tape roll as to permit tearing of a desired length of tape from the roll without having to restrain the roll with a second hand and without needing to employ a cutter. The dispenser may also provide storage means for holding tools or other items.
