Appareil radio téléphonique portable comprenant un boîtier (1), un volet (12) mobile en rotation par rapport au boîtier, le volet pouvant se trouver dans une position rabattue (R), une position déployée et une position intermédiaire. L'appareil comporte en outre des moyens de détection (16) de la position du volet et un commutateur, relié aux moyens de détection. Le commutateur comporte des moyens pour commuter vers une fonction « décroché » lorsque le volet est en position déployée ou vers une fonction « raccroché », lorsque le volet est en position rabattue, ou encore vers une fonction d'appel téléphonique dite « mains-libres », lorsque le volet est en position intermédiaire.
