A simple torque-testing tool (A), particularly for downhole progressing-cavity motors, easily bolts on to the bearing housing (10) on one end and the bit box (12) on the other end. The assembly is first screwed together where a predetermined amount of preload is applied to opposing clutch surfaces. Opposite ends of the housing are affixed to the bearing housing uphole and the bit box downhole and a predetermined amount of flow is run through the stator housing. If the downhole motor is close to its design operating parameter for a given flow rate, it should be able to drive the bit box despite the drag applied by the opposing clutch surfaces. Failure of the downhole motor to be able to overcome the resistance from the device at the predetermined flow rate indicates that the motor is worn. Torque resistance is applied preferably by stacked Belleville washers (20) which can be stacked in a number of arrangements to alter the amount of force. The applied force from the Belleville washers can be altered by rig personnel when assembling the device. The device can be used on a variety of motor types or applications.

Cette invention concerne un outil de contrÙle de couple (A) de conception simple, qui est destin~ en particulier aux moteurs de fonds ~ cavit~, et qui se visse facilement sur le carter de palier (10) par l'une de ses extr~mit~s, sur le porte-outils (12) par son autre extr~mit~. On commence par visser l'ensemble en appliquant une pr~charge d~termin~e sur des surfaces oppos~es d'embrayage. Une fois les extr~mit~s oppos~es du carter fix~es sur le logement de palier cÙt~ amont et sur le porte-outil cÙt~ aval, on fait passer un volume d~termin~ de fluide dans le carter du stator. Si le moteur de fonds est proche de ses param­tres de marche, il doit pouvoir entra¹ner le porte-outil malgr~ la r~sistance exerc~es par les surfaces oppos~es d'embrayage. Dans le cas contraire, le moteur de fonds est us~. Pour cr~er une r~sistance de couple, on utilise de pr~f~rence des empilements de rondelles belleville (20) qui peuvent Útre accol~es en combinaisons diverses de mani­re ~ faire varier la force. Le personnel de forage peut modifier la force exerc~e par ces rondelles bellevile au moment de l'assemblage. Ce dispositif convient pour divers types de moteurs et d'applications.
