A portable lift device provides access to elevated platforms for individuals with disabilities, and includes a lift car and first and second supports on opposing sides thereof for resting upon a ground surface. A lifting mechanism coupled between the side supports and the lift car selectively raises or lowers the lift car. A scissors-like brace selectively locks the front door of the lift car to the support base during lifting operations. The lift car floor uses hinged panels and telescopic cross-members to reduce the width of the lift device for transport through narrowed passageways. Casters can be mounted to the bottom of the lift car for convenient transport. A maximum height adjustment control is self-contained within the lift car for repeatable lifts to a desired height.
