A portable wireless modem for use in kiosks and portable sales centers permits multiple communication devices to engage in wireless communications simultaneously. The portable wireless modem comprises a housing which accommodates an array of ports to which communication devices are to be connected. The housing also accommodates a radio modem to transmit data received from one or more communication devices connected to the ports over a wireless communication link and to receive data, destined for one or more communication devices, from the wireless communication link. There is also a controller in the housing which communicates with the radio modem and the ports and which controls data flow between the radio modem and ports and packages data received from communication devices into packets prior to transmission by the radio modem.
