Apparatus (1) for imaging an object (4) on the remote side of a barrier (6). The apparatus (1) has source means (2) for illuminating the object (4) through the barrier (6) with radiation and detector means (8) for detecting radiation back-scattered from a plurality of points on the object (4). Mask means (10) has a plurality of radiation transparent areas arranged in a pre-determined pattern wherein the back-scattered radiation from each point is masked thereby to project on to the detector means (8), at a position determined by the position of the point, a pattern of radiation corresponding to the pattern of the mask means (10). The apparatus also has image generation means for generating an image of the object from an analysis of the accumulated plurality of patterns of radiation.
L'invention concerne un appareil (1) permettant de former l'image d'un objet (4) sur le côté éloigné d'une barrière (6). Cet appareil (1) possède une source (2) pour illuminer l'objet (4) à travers la barrière (6) par rayonnement et un détecteur (8) pour détecter le rayonnement rétrodiffusé à partir d'une pluralité de points sur l'objet (4). Un masque (10) possède une pluralité de zones perméables au rayonnement disposées selon un motif prédéterminé, le rayonnement rétrodiffusé à partir de chaque point étant masqué par ce masque, afin d'être projeté en direction du détecteur (8), dans une position déterminée par la position du point, un motif de rayonnement correspondant au motif du masque (10). Cet appareil possède également un moyen de formation d'image pour former une image de l'objet à partir d'une analyse de la pluralité des motifs de rayonnement accumulés.
