A method and apparatus for implanting cells in a host is provided. In an embodiment, an implant assembly for a host tissue is provided comprising wall means defining a chamber for holding cells for implantation, the wall means including means for forming a porous boundary between the host tissue and the implanted cells in the chamber, the pore size of the boundary being sufficient to isolate the implanted cells from the immune response of the host tissue, and port means for providing selective access to the chamber.
Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé et à un appareil servant à implanter des cellules dans un organisme hôte. Dans un mode de réalisation de cette invention, on prévoit pour un tissu hôte un ensemble implant qui comprend des parois définissant une chambre destinée à contenir les cellules pour implantation, ces parois comportant des moyens pour former une membrane poreuse entre le tissu hôte et les cellules implantées dans la chambre. La grandeur des pores de cette membrane est suffisante pour isoler les cellules implantées par rapport à la réponse immunitaire du tissu hôte et des ouvertures sont prévues pour permettre un accès sélectif à la chambre.
