A position encoding system (10) is provided for controlling the movement of a movable panel such as a sunroof, between predetermined positions. The system includes a housing assembly and a motor (20) which has an output shaft (26) rotatable in a forward and reverse direction. The panel is moved by a pair of cables which are disposed in associated tube assemblies (44, 46) for sliding movement therein when driven by rotating pinion (32). The drive gear (30) cooperates with the pair of cables such that rotation of the drive gear structure moves the cables linearly and continuously through multiple revolutions of the output shaft (26). A printed circuit board (58) is mounted within the housing assembly and includes stationary electrically conductive contacts and a microprocessor. Certain of circuit board contacts are associated with particular positions of the movable panel and engagement of contacts with an encoder gear generates signals which are input to the microprocessor so that the microprocessor can control the motor and thus the movement of the panel.

Une carte à circuit imprimé (58) est montée à l'intérieur du boîtier et comprend des contacts électroconducteurs immobiles et un miccroprocesseur. Certains des contacts de la carte à circuit sont associés à certaines positions précises du panneau mobile, et le contact entre les contacts et une roue codeuse produit des signaux qui sont transmis au microprocesseur afin que celui-ci puisse commander le moteur et donc le déplacement du panneau.
