A magnetic bearing system must rely on position feedback information for control. Position signal noise degrades performance of the magnetic bearing control and avoidance of the introduction of noise can result in increased controller performance. A digitally controlled magnetic bearing system requires anti-alias filtering on all sampled channels to attenuate noise above the Nyquist rate to a low level, compared with the position signal. One cost of signal filtering is signal phase loss which diminishes the performance of a real time control system as used in magnetic bearing. Significant noise often originates from switching amplifiers common in magnetic bearing systems. The scheme presented reduces the degree of filtering, including anti-alias filtering, required to attenuate a significant component of noise originating from switching amplifiers.
