A positive electrode material for a lithium secondary battery which is high in safety, high in capacity, excellent in rate performance and high temperature storage performance and high in charge/discharge efficiency is provided. The positive electrode material for a lithium secondary battery is obtained by adding Al to a Li-Ni-Co-Ba-O system raw material or preferably by adding Al and an amorphous phase of an oxide thereto. The positive electrode material for a lithium secondary battery is a composite oxide having a total composition represented by Li a Ni b Co c Ba d Al e O x or Li a Ni b Co c Ba d Al e M f O x where M: one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K, Si, Ba, B, P and Al a: 1.0 to 1.2 mol b: 0.5 to 0.95 mol c: 0.05 to 0.5 mol d: 0.0005 to 0.01 mol e: 0.01 to 0.1 mol f: 0.01 mol or less (not inclusive of 0)

On propose un matériau d'électrode positive destinée à une pile au lithium secondaire dont le degré de sûreté est élevé, la capacité est élevée, le rendement est excellent et l'efficacité charge/décharge est élevée, et qui résiste bien à un entreposage à température élevée. Le matériau d'électrode positive pour pile au lithium secondaire est obtenu en ajoutant de l'Al à un système brut Li-Ni-Co-Ba-O ou, préférablement, en ajoutant de l'Al et un oxyde amorphe à ce système. Le matériau d'électrode positive pour pile au lithium secondaire est un oxyde composite dont la composition totale est représentée par Li a Ni b Co c Ba d Al e O x ou Li a Ni b Co c Ba d Al e M f O x où M : au moins un élément parmi le groupe constitué par Li, Na, K, Si, Ba, B, P et Al; a : 1,0 à 1,2 mol; b : 0,5 à 0,95 mol; c : 0,05 à 0,5 mol; d : 0,0005 à 0,01 mol; e : 0,01 à 0,1 mol; f : 0,01 mol ou moins (sauf 0).
