The system comprises a point of identity verification terminal having a means for inputting data (4, 4', 4") presented by a particular individual, at least one database storage and retrieval site having stored therein a plurality of digital image data unique to persons to be identified, and a means for exchanging data between the point of verification terminal and the database site. The database site comprises a means for validating that a point of verification terminal seeking to exchange data with the site is authorized to do so. The system then transmits the image data to the point of verification terminal where it is displayed on a display means (16). The system incorporates a means for verifying (5) that an identifier present at the point of verification has adequately verified that the digital image displayed on the display means matches physical information provided by the person to be identified at the point of verification terminal.
Le système comporte un terminal de point de vérification d'identité comportant un moyen d'introduction de données (4, 4', 4") présenté par un individu particulier, au moins un site de stockage et d'accès à base de données où sont stockées une pluralité de données d'images numériques propres aux personnes à identifier, et un moyen d'échange de données entre le terminal du point de vérification d'identité et le site de la base de données. Le site de la base de données comporte un moyen de validation permettant d'assurer que le terminal du point de vérification cherchant à échanger des données avec lui est autorisé à le faire. Le système transmet alors les données d'images au terminal du point de vérification où elles sont présentées sur un écran (16). Le système comporte un moyen de vérifier (5) qu'un identificateur présent au terminal du point de vérification a correctement vérifié que l'image numérique présentée sur l'écran correspond aux informations physiques fournies par la personne à identifier au terminal du point de vérification.
