ABSTRACT A self-limiting electrically resistive element, which may be used as a self-regulating heater, for example in heat tracing pipes in chemical plants. The element has elongate substantially parallel electrodes connected by a resistive web of an insulative polymeric matrix containing dispersed conductive particles, the web being substantially thicker than in previously proposed elements, and thus reducing the formation of unduly hot areas and giving considerably improved power output and stability and voltage life stability.
