An implantable atrial defibrillator includes a cardiovertor for applying cardioverting electrical energy to the atria of a heart when the atria are in need of cardioversion. The defibrillator further includes a pacer for pacing the atria of the heart immediately after each application of cardioverting electrical energy to the atria of the heart. The atria are paced in a demand mode and for a finite time period.

Défibrillateur auriculaire implantable composé d'un défibrillateur à synchronisation automatique servant à appliquer un choc électrique aux oreillettes du coeur pour rétablir le rythme cardiaque lorsqu'une cardioversion s'impose. Le défibrillateur comporte aussi un stimulateur pour contrôler le rythme des oreillettes du coeur immédiatement après chaque application d'énergie électrique aux oreillettes du coeur à des fins de cardioversion. La stimulation des oreillettes s'effectue à la demande et pendant une période restreinte.
