The present invention relates to post-treatment compositions and methods useful for modifying the distribution of metal biocide(s) in biodegradable substrates such as wood, other cellulosic products, starch-based products, and the like that are vulnerable to decay due to insects, fungi, microbes, and the like. The compositions include complexing agents of moderate strength that are able to facilitate mobilization and redistribution of metal biocide(s) in substrates without undue leaching. The compositions can be used, for example, to redistribute the metal biocide(s) into depleted regions of a substrate by redistribution of metal biocide from other regions of the substrate. Post-treatment compositions that include additional metal biocide can also replenish these regions with the freshly supplied, additional biocide. Thus, the depleted regions can be restored by redistribution and/or replenishment mechanisms. Service life of substrates in the field benefits by these post-treatments as a consequence.
La présente invention concerne des compositions de post-traitement et des procédés qui peuvent être utilisés pour modifier la répartition d'un ou plusieurs biocides métalliques dans des substrats biodégradables tels que le bois, d'autres produits cellulosiques, des produits à base d'amidon et similaires, sensibles à la décomposition due aux insectes, aux champignons, aux microbes et similaires. Les compositions contiennent des agents complexants de force modérée capables de faciliter la mobilisation et la redistribution du ou des biocides métalliques dans des substrats, sans perte indue par lavage. Les compositions peuvent être utilisées par exemple pour redistribuer le ou les biocides métalliques dans des parties appauvries d'un substrat en redistribuant le biocide métallique provenant d'autres parties du substrat. Des compositions de post-traitement qui contiennent un supplément de biocide métallique peuvent également réalimenter ces parties en biocide supplémentaire fraichement fourni. Les parties appauvries peuvent ainsi être réenrichies par des mécanismes de redistribution et/ou de réapprovisionnement. La durée de vie des substrats sur le terrain est améliorée grâce à ces post-traitements.
