A novel post mounting system is disclosed for mounting a post onto a support. The post has a bottom end and a top end and defining an outer periphery extending between said top end and said bottom end. The post mounting system comprises a mounting plate securable to a support and means for securing said mounting means to the support. There is also a threaded fastener for securing the post to the mounting means such that the mounting means is disposed substantially between the post and the support.
