The present invention describes that neurotrophins undergo post-translational modifications, and that these post-translational modifications mediate the pro- apoptotic and/or pro-neurite activity of neurotrophins. These post-translational modifications notably include nitration and the formation of conformationally- different dimers, as well as of abnormal oligomers, such as tetramers and octamers. The invention further relates to compounds that compete with such modified neurotrophins, as well as to compounds that binds to said modified neurotrophins. The invention thus provides useful agents for the treatment of the conditions or diseases involving chronic pain and/or neuron loss.

La présente invention concerne des neurotrophines subissant des modifications post-traductionnelles, ces modifications post-traductionnelles induisant l'activité pro- apoptotique et/ou pro-neurite des neurotrophines. Ces modifications post-traductionnelles comprennent notamment la nitration et la formation de dimères de conformation différente, ainsi que d'oligomères anormaux, tels que des tétramères et des octamères. L'invention concerne également des composés entrant en concurrence avec de telles neurotrophines modifiées, ainsi que des composés qui se lient auxdites neurotrophines modifiées. L'invention concerne donc des agents utiles pour le traitement de troubles ou de maladies impliquant une douleur chronique et/ou une perte de neurones.
