A method of treating reaction injection molded polyurethane, polyurethane/urea and polyurea polymers comprising exposing a reaction injection molded polyurethane, polyurethane/urea or polyurea polymer to an amount of infrared energy sufficient to increase the temperature of the polymer to at least 180 ~C, and then maintaining the temperature of the polymer at or above that temperature, for a time sufficient to increase the Gardner impact property, as measured using ASTMD-3029, when compared to the same polymer which has been heated to the same temperature and maintained thereat for the same time in a convection oven. The invention produces marked improvements in impact, heat sag and heat distortion temperature properties, and thus is particularly suited to rapid preparation of parts using a mass production conveyor and is particularly well-suited to preparation of parts which are to be subjected to later high temperature processes, such as the "E-coat" process.
L'invention concerne un procédé de traitement de polymères de polyuréthanne, de polyuréthanne/urée et de polyurée, qui consiste à exposer un polyuréthanne moulé par injection et réaction à une quantité d'énergie infrarouge suffisante pour que la température du polymère augmente à au moins 180 ·C, à maintenir la température du polymère à cette température ou au-dessus, pendant une durée suffisante pour que la caractéristique de résistance au choc de Gardner, mesurée selon ASTMD-3029, soit augmentée par rapport au même polymère ayant été traité à la même température et maintenu à celle-ci pendant la même durée dans un four à convexion. L'invention se rapporte aussi à des améliorations sensibles des propriétés de fléchissement et de stabilité dimensionnelle à chaud, et convient donc particulièrement à la préparation rapide de pièces au moyen d'un transporteur de production de masse ainsi qu'à la préparation de pièces à soumettre ultérieurement à des traitements à haute température, tel que le procédé "d'enduction de type E".
