ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A vertically adjustable pot bearing for heavy loads such as bridge structures comprises a steel pot (3), a steel cover plate (4) and a seal (5) forming a pressure chamber completely filled in by a plate (1) made of rubber-like material. A pressurized fluid can be injected under the plate (1) to raise same. The plate (1) is provided with a narrow slot (11) open downwardly towards the base of the pot (3). The depth of the slot is about 3/4 of the thickness of the plate (1). The slot is closely spaced from the periphery of the plate, whereby the side wall (9) of the plate (1) can flex against the side wall (10) of the pot (3) to improve the sealing effect between the two.
