ABSTRACT There is provided an apparatus for automatically peeling potatoes. The apparatus includes a chamber which is essentially cylindrical, but which includes facet-defining walls which encroach inwardly on the space of the chamber. There is a top to cover the chamber, and at the bottom there is a downwardly and outwardly sloping rotary member having roughened regions thereon for abrading and removing the potato skins. The provision of the facet-defining walls prevents the potatoes from rotating "en bloc", and causes them to be jostled and tumbled in such a way as to bring all parts of all potatoes into contact with the roughened abrading regions.
