Abstract Disclosed is a potential-causing element, in the form of an electrode or a membrane, for use in immunosensors, which comprises a polypyrrole or polythiophene film bound with an antigen or an antibody. The potential-causing element can be prepared in an easy manner through electrolytic polymerization of pyrrole or thiophene so as to control the thickness of the polymer film which will develop desired immunosresponse characteristics.
