ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel potentiometric electrode in which the internal structure is formed of a leadwire of a noble metal such as platinum in contact with an electrolyte which includes a thermodynamically reversible redox couple, thereby substantially improving the response time of the electrode to changes in ambient temperature. For ion-sensitive elect- rodes with internal buffers, the redox couple can be selected so that its temperature coefficient (.DELTA.E/.DELTA.T) is the inverse of the temperature coefficient of the buffer, thereby ren- dering the electrode substantially temperature insensitive.
