A poultry sorting apparatus consisting of a channel with a paddle wheel mounted between sidewalls of the channel for rotation about a horizontal rotation axis. A motor selectively rotates the paddle wheel in either a first rotational direction or a second rotational direction. A controller is provided which sorts poultry by weight. The paddle wheel rotates in the first rotational direction when a weigh scale indicates an underweight condition and rotates in the second rotational direction when the weigh scale indicates an overweight condition.
