ABSTRACT A powdered material is disclosed which comprises a self- fluxing Ni-Cr based alloy containing 18 to 35 percent by weight of chromium, and boron and silicon in a percent-by- weight ratio of substantially 3:4. The alloy further contains iron in an amount of 0.1 to 25.0 percent by weight but with the exclusion of the range from 1.5 to 6 percent. Protective coatings produced from these alloys by thermal spraying have a very good heat-resistance in particular under corrosive attack.
