A power steering system (10) for a watercraft comprises a hydraulically actuated, unbalanced steering cylinder assembly (32), a pressure source (30), and helm (26) that is spaced from the steering cylinder assembly (32). The helm (26) includes a helm cylinder (70) having a slave chamber (98) luidically coupled to a second chamber (56) in the steering cylinder (50), a high pressure port fluidically coupled to the outlet of the pressure source and to a first chamber (54) in the steering cylinder (50), and a return port (88) fluidic ally coupled to vent. A helm piston (92) is slidably mounted in the helm cylinder (70), and a control valve assembly (90) is movable between at least first and second positions to alternatively couple a control chamber (100) in the helm cylinder (70) to the high pressure and return ports. In order to facilitate mounting of the helm (26) to the dash (22) of the watercraft, the helm (26) has only three ports, and all three ports are all located on a rear axial end of the helm cylinder (70). The helm cylinder (70) also is very compact, having a diameter of no more than about +3".

Aux fins de faciliter le montage de la barre (26) sur le tableau de bord (22) de l'embarcation, la barre ne possède que trois orifices, et ces trois orifices sont tous situés sur l'extrémité axiale arrière du cylindre (70) de barre. Le cylindre (70) de barre est par ailleurs très compact et il possède un diamètre environ inférieur à +3''.
