A power conductor rail (2) having a multi-metallic construction includes an asymmetrical steel portion having a top flange thickness (12) greater than that of the bottom flange (14) in a generally I-shaped configuration with spaced apertures (24) along the length of the web (16). Aluminum cladding (6) is cast onto both sides of the web (16) with a cold rolled high conductivity layer (8, 10), such as copper disposed between the aluminum and steel on either side of the web (16) and having holes (26) corresponding in size and shape to the apertures of the web. The aluminum cladding (34) extends through the web apertures (24) producing a multi-metallic sandwich construction. The high conductivity layers (8, 10) provide a mechanical bond between the steel and aluminum and reduce transfer resistance thereby increasing overall conductivity. The aluminum cladding (6) on one side of the rail web (16) may include a longitudinal heater hole (36) along the inside of the flange (12) configured to house a heating cable, to eliminate freezing or icing in sub-freezing environments.

Cette invention concerne un rail conducteur (2) à structure multimétallique qui comprend une partie asymétrique en acier dont l'aile supérieure (12) a une épaisseur plus grande que celle de l'aile inférieure (14), qui présente une section généralement en I et dont l'âme (16) comporte une série d'ouvertures (24) espacées dans le sens de la longueur. Un revêtement en aluminium (6) moulé sur les deux côtés de l'âme masque une lame métallique à haute conductivité laminée à froid (8, 10), en cuivre par exemple, comportant des trous (26) de forme et de dimensions identiques à celles des ouvertures pratiquées dans l'âme du rail. Le revêtement en aluminium (34) recouvre les parois des ouvertures (24) de façon à former une structure sandwich multimétallique. Les lames à haute conductivité (8, 10) assurent la liaison mécanique des parties acier et aluminium et réduisent la résistance de l'ensemble pour une meilleur conductivité. Le revêtement en aluminium (6) peut comporter, d'un côté de l'âme (16) et le long de la face intérieure de l'aile (12), un passage tubulaire longitudinal de chauffage (36) dans lequel loger un câble chauffant servant à prévenir le gel ou le givrage par temps froid.
