POWER CONSERVATION FOR BATTERY POWERED UNITS IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM Abstract of the Disclosure A power conservation arrangement for battery operated emote units (26) in a radio data communications system (10) or the like wherein a destination address (Fig. 2) may be extracted from a received data packet and extracted from a received data packet and examined without initial error correction. If not within a predetermined tolerance range, the involved remote unit simply powers down at that juncture and reenters full battery saver mode. An arrangement is further included to guard against undue falsing even tho destination address are examined which may in fact have bit errors occurring therein.
