The problem of undesired power consumption in an oscillator during "stop" periods of a device (35) is addressed by providing the oscillator in apparatus external to the device, the apparatus including a current sensor sensing current in a line between the apparatus and the device, the line (26) communicating an oscillator "clock" signal. If the device enters a "stop" state the current flow during certain half-cycles of the oscillation is relatively low compared to the current flow in the "no-stop" state. In response to a relatively low current, the apparatus halts oscillation (33). Later, when the device exits the "stop" state, current flow increases in the line, and the apparatus resumes oscillation, thereby resuming the communication of the clock signal to the device. Alternatively the apparatus monitors two oscillator lines by means of an XOR gate, powering down the oscillator when the XOR output goes low and restoring the oscillator when the XOR output goes high.
Selon cette invention, on résout le problème de la consommation d'énergie non voulue dans un oscillateur pendant les période d'<=arrêt>= d'un dispositif (35) en plaçant l'oscillateur dans un appareil externe au dispositif. Cet appareil comporte un détecteur de courant qui détecte le courant dans une ligne de courant reliant l'appareil au dispositif, cette ligne (26) communiquant un signal d'<=horloge>= de l'oscillateur. Si le dispositif entre dans un état d'<=arrêt>=, le flux de courant pendant certains demi-cycles de l'oscillation est relativement faible par rapport au flux de courant de l'état de <=non arrêt>=. En réponse au courant relativement faible, cet appareil arrête l'oscillation (33). Lorsque le dispositif quitte l'état d'<=arrêt>=, le flux de courant augmente dans la ligne et l'appareil reprend ses oscillations, rétablissant ainsi la communication du signal d'horloge avec le dispositif. Dans une variante, l'appareil surveille deux lignes d'oscillateurs au moyen d'une porte OU exclusif, interrompant l'oscillateur lorsque la puissance de la porte OU exclusif s'affaiblit, et remettant en marche l'oscillateur lorsque la puissance de la porte OU exclusif augmente.
