Abstract of the Invention A phase control system for controlling the magnitude of A.C. power supplied to a load through a bilateral switch element such as a trial or a pair of inverse/parallel-connected SCRs. The state of the switch element is controlled such that the angle of conduction in the positive and negative half power cycle are equal. The conduction angle during one polarity half power cycle is controlled by an adjustable timing circuit with the conduction angle during the opposite polarity half power cycle being controlled by a second timing circuit which provides a delay equal to one-half the power cycle period. With the conduction angle so controlled, the control system provides a balanced output despite the presence of non-linearities and other inaccuracies in the adjustable timing circuit.
