A B S T R A C T A motor chain saw has a driving sprocket wheel adapted to be driven by a motor through an intermediate clutch acting as safety clutch for the saw chain. The intermediate clutch is disengageable by an actuating element through a release member mounted on the housing and comprises at least one follower element movable between a disengaging and engaging position for con- necting the two clutch parts of the intermediate clutch. The disengaging and engaging movements of the follower element are directed substantially in the axial direction of the intermediate clutch.
