ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A power factor correction system comprising, in series, a capacitor and a current and voltage limiting circuit. The latter includes a branch comprising, in serial connection, an inductor, a resistor and a first switch. A second switch is mounted in parallel to the branch for short-circuiting same during the steady-state operation of the power factor correction system. The disclosure also describes a fuse assembly having a fusible member mounted within the magnetic field created by the inductor and extending across the magnetic field whereby a force is exerted on the fusible member when a current passes therethrough.
