A process for obtaining energy values contained in a sulphur-containing carbonaceous fuel, said process comprising (a) treating a feed carbonaceous fuel having a first bound-sulphur content with an effective amount of an oxygen and SO2- containing gas in a reactor at an effective temperature to (i) provide elemental sulphur from said SO2, (ii) release exothermic heat, and (iii) produce a hot effluent gaseous steam containing said elemental sulphur and treated fuel having a second bound- sulphur content, (b) separating said elemental sulphur from said treated fuel; (c) collecting said elemental sulphur; (d) collecting said treated fuel; and (e) collecting said exothermic heat.

Un procédé pour obtenir des valeurs énergétiques dans un combustible carboné, soufré, ledit procédé comportant : a) le traitement dans un réacteur à une température efficace d'une combustible carboné ayant une première teneur en soufre lié au moyen d'une quantité efficace d'un gaz contenant de l'oxygène et SO2 afin i) de produire du soufre élémentaire à partir dudit SO2, ii) de libérer de la chaleur par réaction exothermique et iii) de produire un effluent gazeux chaud contenant ledit soufre élémentaire provenant du combustible traité et le combustible traité ayant une deuxième teneur en soufre lié; b) la séparation dudit soufre élémentaire et dudit combustible traité; c) la collecte dudit soufre élémentaire; d) la collecte dudit combustible traité; e) la collecte de ladite chaleur exothermique.
