ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A crowd system for a power shovel having a front end assembly mounted on a body and including a stiffleg pivotally connected to the body, a dipper handle operatively connected to the stiffleg and a dipper operatively connected to the dipper handle has mounted on the body and operatively con- nected to the front end assembly for hoisting the dipper, at least one fluid actuated working piston and cylinder assembly operatively interconnecting the body and the front end assembly so that upon selectively supplying fluid under pressure to opposite ends of the cylinder of the assembly, the front end system correspondingly will be caused to be lowered or raised, an arrangement for selectively supplying fluid under pressure to opposite ends of said cylinder, and an energy regeneration system including an accumulator which is charged upon a pre- determined movement of at least one component of the front end assembly. In its charged condition, the accumulator provides a force applicable to a component of the front end assembly for biasing the component toward a predetermined movement.
