It includes a frame, a power driven rotary gear, a pair of pivotally mounted jaws, a cam follower and pipe gripping elements an improved mechanism de- fined by cam surfaces is provided for properly aligning the pipe when it is gripped by the tong so that the pipe may be rotated evenly about its axis.
