2062786 9119114 PCTABS00008 A power transfer assembly (10) with a one-piece retainer ring (46) includes a housing (12), a plurality of alternating rotatable and non-rotatable friction discs (24, 26), a power actuated piston (28), a spring washer (42), a cushion spring (30) between the piston (28) and the friction discs (24, 26), and a retaining ring (46) for retaining the spring washer (42) in place. The one-piece retainer ring (46) includes a first retainer portion (48) positioned within a recessed groove (44) in the housing (12) and a second portion (50) in contact with the spring washer (42). Prior art clutch and brake assemblies utilize several types of retaining rings and reaction type wear members to retain and react against a spring element. These prior art devices required two or more members to provide the retention and reaction functions. The subject combination retainer and wear ring (46) is a one-piece member.
