Recombinant fowlpox virus vectors in the form of vaccinia viruses have the potential to deliver vaccine antigens to a variety of animal species. Accordingly, a gene sequence is provided which includes a first promotor for the expression of a major early fowlpox virus protein as well as a second promotor for the expression of a late fowlpox virus protein in opposite orientation to the first promotor. A plasma may be provided which includes the gene sequence of the first and second promotors as well as a viral vector including the same sequences. A process for constructing the viral vector is also disclosed.
