A method of pre-heating a liquid in an aircraft reservoir (30) to facilitate pumping of the liquid during a cold start, the method comprising providing an electric motor (34), a pump (32) and a controller (42), the electric motor being connected to the pump for pumping the liquid in the reservoir and being thermally associated with the reservoir, and selectively setting the electric motor in a pre-heatmg mode or pumping mode, the pre-heatmg mode preventing pumping by using a mechanical locking device (40), a clutch or a bypass valve or by non- mechanical methods such as providing uncommutated current to the electric motor.

L'invention concerne une méthode de préchauffage d'un liquide dans un réservoir d'aéronef (30) afin de faciliter le pompage du liquide lors d'un démarrage à froid, la méthode consistant à utiliser un moteur électrique (34), une pompe (32) et un système de commande (42), le moteur électrique étant connecté à la pompe pour permettre le pompage du liquide dans le réservoir et permettant un transfert de chaleur avec le réservoir, et à sélectionner le mode de préchauffage ou le mode de pompage du moteur électrique, le mode de préchauffage empêchant le pompage grâce à un mécanisme de verrouillage mécanique (40), un embrayage ou un clapet de dérivation, ou grâce à des méthodes non-mécaniques telles que l'alimentation du moteur électrique par un courant non-commuté.
