IMPROVED PRE-LOADED VALVE FOLLOWER SEALING APPARATUS ABSTRACT The invention comprises an improved pre-loaded valve follower sealing apparatus to prevent contamination of the interior portions of a valve, having these features: a valve body having a valve guillotine supportingly disposed for reciprocating movement therein; an inlet flange and outlet flange means oppositely disposed upon the exterior of the valve body; a valve seat disposed within the valve body and connected to one of inlet and outlet flanges to open thereinto; and further, a follower ring and flange insert assembly having the following features to be referred to: a pair of hollow cylinders, one of which is snugly and slidingly interdisposed within the other, with one of the cylinders having a shoulder of reduced diameter on the inner diameter thereof; a follower ring and flange insert assembly adjacently disposed for forming a follower preload and sealing element containing space between them; a follower preload and sealing element disposed within the follower preload and sealing element containing space formed by said interdisposed cylinders; and force directing and sealing means for simultaneously sealing the interior of the valve body from fluid leakage through the interdisposed cylinders and for applying force in the direction of the guillotine upon the follower preload and sealing element, and thereby upon the follower ring, to preload the follower ring against the guillotine for maintaining liquid sealing between the guillotine and the follower ring on one side of the guillotine, and between the guillotine and the valve seat on the opposite side of the guillotine.
