A B S T R A C T A method for the precipitation of iron from a solution containing ferrous sulphate and zinc sulphate, such as a solution produced during the recovery of zinc from a zinc containing ore, consists of heating the solution in the presence of oxygen and in a pressure vessel at a temperature in excess of 110°C for a period of time not exceeding 30 minutes. The short residence time of the solution in the pressure vessel means that a pressure vessel with a smaller capacity may be used compared with the pressure vessel required in conventional processes.
