ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A reagent useful for precipitation of protein from a biological sample is disclosed. The reagent, which is especially suitable for simultaneous precipitation of interfering protein and extraction of the analyte prior to performance of fluorescence polarization immunoassays for digoxin in human serum, comprises, in weight/volume percent, from about 3% to about 4% 5-sulfosalicylic acid in an aqueous solution including from about 40% to about 60% of a straight or branch chained organic alcohol having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
