A precision aircraft landing system comprising at least four separately located receivers (Rx1, Rx2, etc.). Each receiver includes a timer for measuring precisely the time interval between the receiver's detection of a signal from an interrogator (Tx) and a reply signal from a transponder (B) onboard the aircraft (16). A central processing unit (CPU) at a base station uses the time measurements from the receivers to calculate the location of the aircraft. The base station can also compute the transponder reply time. Preferably estimation filtering calculations are used to improve accuracy. The aircraft's position is compared with a mathematical description of a desired approach path, and the position error is determined and then communicated immediately to the aircraft.
Système d'atterrissage de précision pour avions comprenant au moins quatre récepteurs placés séparément les uns par rapport aux autres (Rx1, Rx2, etc.). Chaque récepteur comporte un chronomètre destiné à mesurer précisément le laps de temps qui s'écoule entre la détection par le récepteur d'un signal émis par un interrogateur (Tx) et un signal de réponse émis par un répondeur (B) situé à bord de l'avion (16). Une unité centrale (CPU) située à une station de base utilise les mesures de temps fournies par les récepteurs pour calculer la position de l'avion. La station de base peut également calculer le temps de réponse du répondeur. On utilise de préférence des calculs à filtrage d'estimations pour améliorer l'exactitude. La position de l'avion est comparée à la description mathématique d'une voie d'approche désirée; l'erreur de position est alors déterminée et immédiatement communiquée à l'avion.
