A preform (10) for making a lightweighted plastic container includes a finish portion (18) having at least one external thread defined thereon that has a first sidewall thickness (T1), a main body portion (20), an end cap (24), and a transition portion (26) between the end cap and the main body portion. The end cap has a second side wall thickness (T2) that preferably is not less than said first side wall thickness of the finish portion (18). The main body portion (20) is preferably unstepped, and the outer surface of the transition portion (26) is preferably concave as viewed in longitudinal cross-section. In addition, the transition portion (26) preferably extends for a longitudinal distance, and a ratio of the longitudinal distance to an outer radius of the end cap is preferably within a range of about 0.3 to about 0.9.
Linvention concerne une préforme (10) pour fabriquer un récipient en plastique léger, comprenant une partie dapprêt (18) sur laquelle est défini au moins un filet externe qui présente une première épaisseur (T1) de paroi latérale, une partie de corps principal (20), un nez de cylindre (24) et une partie de transition (26) entre le nez de cylindre et la partie de corps principal. Le nez de cylindre présente une seconde épaisseur (T2) de paroi latérale qui est de préférence supérieure à ladite première épaisseur de paroi latérale de la partie dapprêt (18). La partie de corps principal (20) est de préférence continue, et la surface externe de la partie de transition (26) est de préférence concave, vue en coupe transversale longitudinale. De plus, la partie de transition (26) sétend de préférence sur une distance longitudinale, et un rapport entre la distance longitudinale et un rayon externe du nez de cylindre se situe de préférence dans la plage comprise entre 0,3 et 0,9.
