This invention provides a compound having formula (I) wherein R and R1 are each, independently, hydrogen or SO3-X+; X+ is alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium, alkylammonium containing 1-6 carbon atoms, or dialkylammonium containing 1-6 carbon atoms in each alkyl group, or trialkylammonium containing 1-6 carbon atoms in each alkyl group; with the proviso that R and R1 are not both hydrogen, which is useful as a progestational agent.
