ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Molten metal handling vessels have nozzle/ stopper rod arrangements. By providing a heat barrier about the lower end of the stopper rod and the upper end of the nozzle, and by supplying heat, preferably through the nozzle, to the interior of the barrier, the cooperating parts of the nozzle and stopper rod may be preheated evenly and rapidly without risk of damage to the interior of the vessel itself, e.g. to its inner lining. The invention is of particular value in preheating t??dish nozzle/stopper rod assemblies. - 1 -
