078147-BB PRELOADED TORQUE CONVERTER WITH PLUG-IN FLYWHEEL MOUNTING Abstract A torque converter assembly including means for reducing the axial thrust loading transmitted to the crankshaft by which the torque converter is driven and to thereby reduce thrust wear of the crankshaft bearing. This means includes a thrust washer (18) loosely re- tained in the turbine hub (13) of the torque converter (10) and a shaft bolt (23) securing the thrust washer (18) and turbine hub (13) to the end of a transmission input shaft (15) driven by the torque converter. Also, the torque converter (10) is coupled to the engine flywheel (34) by a plug-in mounting comprising a plurality of-drive lugs (38) secured to the torque converter housing (11) and received in aligned bores (37) formed in the face of the flywheel (34).
