A premold (10) for housing the electri- cal contacts (28) of an electrical connector has a base (26) with a plurality of channels (36, 38) extending from a front surface to a rear surface thereof, each of the chan- nels (36, 38) accommodating therein an associated elec- trical contact (28). An intermediate wall (40) extending transversely across each of the channels (36, 38) divides them into a front portion (36) extending from the front surfaces to the intermediate wall (40) and a rear portion (38) extending from the intermediate wall (40) to the rear surface. The front portion of each channel (36) ac- commodates an engageable portion (30) of the electrical contact (28) and the rear portion (38) accommodates a connector end (32) of the electrical contact (28) for con- necting it to an electrical cord (12). The front portion (36) and the rear portion (38) of the channels (36, 38) shield the electrical contacts (28) from inadvertent con- tact. A cover (24) snaps on the base (26) covering the front portion (36) and the rear portion (38) of each of the channels (36, 38) and the electrical contacts (28) con- tained therein for retaining the electrical contacts (28) within the housing (22) insulated from contacting each other and from contacting the environment. The cover (24) is substantially coextensive with the base portion (26) such that each of the electrical contacts (28) is sub- stantially completely contained within the premold (10).
Cette invention se rapporte à un boîtier prémoulé (10) servant à loger les contacts électriques (28) d'un connecteur électrique et comprenant à cet effet une base (26) ayant plusieurs profilés en U (36, 38) s'étendant depuis une surface avant jusqu'à une surface arrière, chacun de ces profilés en U (36, 38) recevant un contact électrique associé (28). Une paroi intermédiaire (40) s'étendant transversalement par rapport à chacun de ces profilés en U (36, 38) divise ceux-ci en une partie avant (36) s'étendant depuis la surface avant jusqu'à la paroi intermédiaire (40) et en une surface arrière (38) s'étendant depuis la paroi intermédiaire (40) jusqu'à la surface arrière. Dans la partie avant de chaque profilé en U (36) vient se loger une partie engageable (30) du contact électrique (28) et dans la partie arrière (38) vient se loger une extrémité de connecteur (32) du contact électrique (28) connectant celui-ci à un cordon électrique (12). La partie avant (36) et la partie arrière (38) des profilés en U (36, 38) protègent les contacts électriques de tout contact par inadvertance. Un couvercle (24) s'encliquette sur la base (26), de façon à couvrir la partie avant (36) et la partie arrière (38) de chacun des profilés en U (36, 38) ainsi que les contacts électriques contenus dans lesdits profilés, en vue de retenir les contacts électriques (28) dans le logement (22), en les isolant les uns des autres et par rapport à l'environnement extérieur. Le couvercle (24) s'étend pratiquement sur la même longueur que la partie de base (26), de sorte que chacun des contacts électriques (28) est pour ainsi dire complètement contenu dans le boîtier prémoulé (10).
