ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A liquid preparation suitable for use in forming a protective dental film on oral surfaces when mixed with saliva, consisting essentially of sodium fluoride in an aqueous solution containing menthol, Oil of Cloves, and Oil of Cinnamon in the proportions by weight of approximately 10:5:13, respectively, the sodium fluoride being present in the range of about 0.1 to 3.0 milligrams per total solution volume of approximately 10 to 40 milliliters. The protective film produced by repeated (daily) use of such oral rinse formula has been found to give teeth a high luster or sheen, reduce plaque attachment, diminish calculus attachment, reduce inter- proximal and gingival caries, decrease swelling of gingival tissue, reduce stains and their formation, reduce the discomfort of Apthos ulcers and promote the healing of such ulcers, as well as of cuts and abrasions in the mouth, and reduce and control sensitivity of areas about the crowns and roots of teeth.
