PREPARATION OF 1-CHLORO-2-TRIFLUOROMETHYL- 3,3,3-TRIFLUOROPROPENE FROM ISOBUTANE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Isobutane is catalytically converted to l-chloro-2- trifluoromethyl-3,3,3-trifluoropropene [(CF31)C = CHC1] in a dehydro/chlorofluorination reaction zone by passing a mixture of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, chlorine and the isobutane over a chromium oxide or metal fluoride dehydro/chlorofluorination catalyst. Alternatively, the isobutane feed is first prechlorina- ted, and the mixture of prechlorination fed for conversion to the desired (CF3)2C = CHC1, to a downstream fluorination reactor charged with the dehyro/chlorofluorination catalyst. The l-chloro-2-trifluoromethyl-3,3,3-trifluoropropene product is of value as an intermediate in the preparation of hexafluoroisobuty- lene.
