ABSTRACT This invention concerns a process for pro- ducing 3,6-dichloropicolinic acid, which is known to be useful as a herbicide. The process comprises re- acting 3,5,6-trichloro-4-hydrazinopicolinic acid with an alkali metal hydroxide in a liquid reaction medium containin water or a lower alkanol and then acidifying the reaction mixture with a mineral acid. This process gives high yields of desired product and permits eco- nomical production.
