The invention concerns a method for preparing 4-cyano-4'-hydroxy biphenyl, consisting in protecting the aldehyde function of 4-bromo-benzaldehyde, reacting the protected 4-bromo-benzaldehyde with p-alcoxyphenyl magnesium halide, deprotecting the formyl of the protected 4-alcoxy-4'-formyl-biphenyl and transforming the formyl group into cyano and hydrolysing the alcoxy group of the resulting 4-alcoxy-4'-cyano biphenyl.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation du 4-cyano-4'-hydroxybiphenyle, le procédé comprenant la protection de la fonction aldéhyde du 4-bromo- benzaldéhyde, la réaction du 4-bromo-benzaldehyde protège avec de l'halogènure de p-alcoxyphényle magnésium, la déprotection du radical formyl du 4-alcoxy-4'- formyl-biphényle protégé et conversion du groupe formyle en cyano et l'hydrolyse du groupe alcoxy du 4-alcoxy-4'-cyano-biphényle-résultant.
